Fashion for Faison
On November 14th, 2024, I had the privilege of walking in the fashion show for the Wine, Women & Shoes fundraising event benefiting the Faison Center.
The Faison Center, a nonprofit organization, put together an event that felt fun and celebratory, yet was centered around the truth that we were there for something bigger. The center is dedicated to providing services and support for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities in Central Virginia. The Faison Center works to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families while promoting inclusion and community involvement.
Wine, Women & Shoes is an annual fundraising event held in Richmond, VA to support the Faison Center and its programs. The event brings together members of the community for an evening of wine, fashion, shopping, and philanthropy. Proceeds from the event are used to help develop and support the organization's services, including educational programs, therapy, and family support.
VCUArts had the honor of hosting the grand finale fashion show for the event, and I was thrilled to be invited to participate as a model. As a Fashion Merchandising student at VCU, this opportunity was especially meaningful to me because it allowed me to combine my passion for fashion with something that could make a tangible impact for my community.
This event tapped into a soft spot in many hearts in the room, as it centered around a love for the arts, which is such a core part of the Richmond community. Attendees left feeling inspired and uplifted, with an important reminder that artistry can bring people together, create meaningful experiences, and provide real support for causes and organizations that make a difference within entire communities.
Through this event, the Faison Center showcased how fashion and the arts can extend beyond creativity and become a way to bring people together in support of a greater purpose. I valued the opportunity to contribute to an event that not only celebrated the arts, but also supported the Faison Center and the individuals and families it serves.
